Working Fire at Borgers Speedway
Sat. Oct 24th 2009

Station 43 was dispatched for mutual aid to Station 23 for a working fire at the Speedway.  First arriving crews had heavy fire conditions and started a defensive operation.  Multiple tanker shuttles were utilized.

Article from poconorecord.com

Emergency crews were on the scene of a fire at Borger's Garage and Blue Mountain Speedway in Saylorsburg on Saturday evening. Multiple explosions were reported.

Fire Companies from Monroe County and Wind Gap have been called.

Portions of Old Route 115 as well as access to Route 33 from Saylorsburg were closed as crews battled the fire. Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder and crews from Monroe and Northampton counties were at the scene.

According to the State Police Fire Marshal unit, the garage was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Jason Brown of Nazareth happened to be driving by when the fire broke out. He was one of the first three people on the scene. When he arrived he said flames were shooting out the door. Within 15 minutes the whole place was engulfed in flames.

His aunt, Darlene Kingel, lives next door. She said she heard a large explosion and saw 15- to 20-foot flames shooting out the front door. Fearful that it would explode again, she took her pets and went to a relative's house.

A huge cloud of smoke could be seen in the distance.
